Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Virginia rose last week compared with the week prior, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday. New jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs, increased to 2,754 in the week ending May 3, up from 2,516 the week before, the Labor Department said. In a statement, the organisation said it was operating in "a very financially-challenging environment."
With a 10% drop in income, the university said it must act in order to cut budgets.
