American Library Association report on 'book bans' blasted by conservative scholar

A new report on so-called "book bans" from the American Library Association is drawing criticism from a prominent conservative education scholar who recently testified before a Senate committee on the topic of book bans.

The report from the ALA said that there have been "695 attempts to censor library materials" and that 1,915 "unique titles" have been challenged in school and public libraries across the country from Jan. 1 to Aug. 31. The ALA said this represents a 20% increase from 2022.

Target’s Pride merchandise leads to sales slump

Target experienced a sales downturn in the second quarter amid ongoing consumer backlash from the retailer’s Pride and transgender merchandise.

Comparable sales slipped 5.4% while the $24.8 billion in total revenue was 4.9% lower than last year.

Negative reaction to Target’s Pride collection had a material impact on sales, Target CEO Brian Cornell said on a call with reporters.

"As we navigate an ever-changing operating and social environment, we are applying what we learned" he added.

Disney Enters a Crisis of Its Own Making

On the menu today: The Wall Street Journal reports that “Disney World Hasn’t Felt This Empty in Years.” No doubt some on the Right will reflexively cite this as another example of “get woke, go broke,” and perhaps the perception that Disney is now a powerful force for the cultural Left is spurring some conservative families to stay away. But it’s as likely that the exorbitant admission prices to the parks — which has risen considerably faster than the rate of inflation over the past four decades — are having a comparable or larger deterrent effect.

The Bud Light Meltdown Is Good for America

Some corporation had to show how 'woke' marketing could cost an iconic American brand dearly in terms of its image, its sales, and its market capitalization.

We should all be grateful to Anheuser-Busch.

Some corporation had to show how “woke” marketing could cost an iconic American brand dearly in terms of its image, its sales, and its market capitalization.

Through its special beer can produced for transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, Anheuser-Busch, in effect, volunteered for duty.

The New Ugly Americans

The old cultural imperialism was supposedly greedy corporatism like Disneyland, McDonald's, and Starbucks sprouting up worldwide to supplant local competitors.

But these businesses spread because they appealed to free-will consumer demand abroad. They were not imposed top down.

The U.S. presence in Afghanistan collapsed in August 2021 amid the greatest American military humiliation in modern history. A billion-dollar new embassy was abandoned. Hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of new infrastructure at the huge Bagram Airbase was dumped.

Are corporations going liberal? Conservative pushback on the rise.

For years corporations have faced pressure from the left to pivot beyond “shareholder value” to think of wider stakeholders and longer-term risks such as climate change. But that so-called ESG movement faces rising criticism.

Proposal 6 of the proxy statement for this week’s annual meeting at Bank of America reads like many proposals routinely pushed by progressive shareholders. It calls for the bank to split the CEO and board chairman positions between two people rather than concentrating power in the hands of a single person.

Beer, Chocolate Bars, Razor Blades: Conservatives Cash in as Woke Companies Put Politics Over Profits

Whether it’s beer, razor blades or chocolates, conservatives have begun cashing in on once-mainstream, now-woke corporations insulting their intelligence and values.

Apparently, a corollary to “Go Woke, Go Broke” axiom is “Stay Sane, Profits Gain”

One of the most profitable market opportunities for conservative companies has been to quickly provide alternatives to well-established brands when they alienate customers by promoting liberal gender ideology.

Florida education board expands limitations on gender identity lessons in public schools

The Florida Board of Education on Wednesday approved Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ request to expand his Parental Rights in Education law, which currently prevents school employees or third parties from giving classroom instruction on "sexual orientation" or "gender identity" in elementary school.

The move will expand the rule, which currently only applies to kindergarten through 3rd grade, to all grades unless required by existing state standards or as part of reproductive health instruction that students can choose not to take.

Florida Expands ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Policy To Older Students At DeSantis’ Request

The Florida Board of Education voted unanimously on Wednesday to bar the state’s middle and high school teachers from teaching students about sexual orientation or gender identity, an expansion of a state policy for younger students known by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” law, which fueled nationwide controversies over LGBTQ protections and a feud between Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Disney.
