Open Positions

Media Analyst (German News)

AllSides, the leader in balanced news and media bias ratings, is seeking numerous Media Analysts to assist in a project reviewing political bias in German online news sites.

We’re looking for individuals who are bilingual in German and English and are familiar with the German news and political landscape. Media Analysts must have excellent reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills in both languages in order to assist in reviewing news outlets for political bias.

Media Analysts will join a panel of other news bias reviewers to help AllSides, an American company, rate bias.

In order to create a politically balanced panel, we are seeking analysts whose personal political views vary. Applicants should be willing to openly share their political leanings in order to help us achieve a breadth of perspectives.

This role requires availability of 2 hours per week in February and March 2025 during Eastern Standard Time mornings (2-6 PM CET). The role is fully remote and will span roughly a 5-week period. Compensation is €38-47 per hour ($40-50/hour USD).

This project is short-term, but has the potential to grow into longer-term work.

Responsibilities:

  • Read news media content to analyze and record instances of perceived political bias; share thoughts and findings with the AllSides team.
  • Undergo online training to develop familiarity with types of media bias.
  • Discuss perceived media bias with reviewers who may have different perspectives.
  • (Potentially) Assist in writing summaries of panelist findings on bias.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written English and German communication skills.
  • Proficient understanding of the German political and news media landscape.
  • 1-2 years experience in news media, journalism, politics, or communications — professionally or academically.
  • Flexible schedule; availability of 2 hours per week (between 2-6 PM CET Monday through Friday) over a 5-week period in February and March 2025.
  • Reliable internet connection.
  • Well-developed personal political views.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. political landscape is not required, but a plus.
  • Interest in AllSides’ work to make media bias transparent.
