Subsidized heat pump installation is driving growth of clean energy jobs in Maine

Heat pump installation, benefiting from government subsidies, is fueling clean energy job growth in Maine, according to a state report released Wednesday. The study commissioned by the Governor’s Energy Office shows that Maine’s “clean energy economy” reached 15,000 jobs at the end of 2022, or about 2.3% of the state’s workforce of 656,400. The auction closely followed the release of data showing that U.S. oil production is now higher than in any country at any time in history, reaching about 13.3 million barrels per day in the fourth quarter.

Construction temporarily halted due to wetland permit delay on $2B electric vehicle plant in South Carolina

Construction work has been temporarily stopped on a $2 billion new electric vehicle plant in South Carolina being built by a Volkswagen Group-backed group trying to revive a brand that was a forerunner to today’s SUVs. State and local officials said they need more time to obtain wetland permits to continue clearing land at the Blythewood site for Scout Motors. But they said the pause shouldn't delay the planned opening of the plant in 2026 or the hiring of 4,000 workers. The delay also will give officials more time to...
