I have a conflict.

I don't much like Linda McMahon, President Donald Trump's new Education Secretary. I sued her once.

She and her sleazy husband, Vince, owned a circus called World Wrestling Entertainment. 

When I did a silly ABC news video on how the matches are staged, one of their 280-pound actors beat me up. A wrestler said Vince told him to do it.

But now, I like what Linda's doing!

The Department of Education said Friday it would launch an investigation into the University of California (UC), Berkeley, over improper foreign funding disclosures.

President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Thursday directing the shutdown of the U.S. Education Department, fulfilling a campaign pledge to eliminate the agency, which has long been a conservative target.

Federal student loan payments, federal funding for students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Title I funding for low-income schools will remain unchanged under the order, according to reports.

President Donald Trump is expected to take the extraordinary step this week of directing his secretary of education to dissolve the U.S. Department of Education by executive order, according to sources familiar with a draft.

A draft of the executive order calls on Education Secretary Linda McMahon to facilitate a department closure by taking all necessary steps "permitted by law," the sources said.

However, such a move would require congressional approval; any proposed legislation would likely fail without 60 Senate votes.

President Donald Trump is expected to issue an executive order, possibly Thursday, aimed at abolishing the Department of Education, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The newspaper cited several people briefed on the matter and reviewed a draft of the order. 

It directs newly sworn Education Secretary Linda McMahon to "take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Education Department" based on "the maximum extent appropriate and permitted by law."

The official White House schedule was updated Thursday morning with Trump signing unspecified executive orders at 2 p.m. EST.

The Education Department will suspend student loan payments and interest for around 8 million borrowers after a Thursday court order blocked the Biden administration’s latest repayment program.

Cody Gude was counting the seconds until July when his monthly student loan payment was scheduled to drop to $100 from $200.

The lower payment meant that he would no longer need to deliver groceries on Instacart in his spare time, on top of his work as a social media consultant.

“I could breathe,” the 35-year-old Tampa, Florida, resident said.
