McDonald's rolls back DEI programs

McDonald’s is scrapping many of its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. The move is part of a larger trend of corporations rolling back DEI commitments made during the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 and their aftermath. McDonald’s cited a “shifting legal landscape,” referring to last year’s Supreme Court decision outlawing affirmative action in college admissions, for its reasoning. Specifically, the company will end diversity quotas at senior levels and end a program that pushes suppliers to develop DEI training.

The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday that it's investigating whether Taylor Farms, a supplier for McDonald’s, is the possible source of the E. coli outbreak linked to Quarter Pounder hamburgers, which has killed at least one person and sickened nearly 50 others. NY Times avoids mentioning its source corroborating Harris' McDonalds claim is a campaign surrogate

The New York Times was called out for discounting its source's ties to Vice President Kamala Harris while reporting on the controversy over whether she had worked at McDonald's. 

Harris' claim that she worked at the iconic fast food chain for a summer while she was in college has faced tense scrutiny in recent weeks, especially since no records proving her employment have surfaced and none of her co-workers have been found.

Let's stipulate that this is hardly the most important issue facing voters as they make their choices over the next few weeks.  It's a sideshow.  And candidly, it was one in which I had very little interest.  Donald Trump has been trolling Kamala Harris over her claim that she worked at a McDonald's while in college, "doing french fries and ice cream."   She never mentioned this before her first presidential run in 2019, having apparently avoided any discussion of this ostensible element of her biography until that point.  Trump has alleged this is a made-up story.

Former President Donald Trump took on a new role as he cooked and served french fries to customers at McDonald's on Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania, while dishing out plenty of jabs at Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Hello, everybody. It's my first day at McDonald's, I'm looking for a job," Trump said as he entered the establishment and shook hands with the owner. 

Thousands of Trump supporters surrounded the McDonald's restaurant as Trump spent the afternoon working as a fry cook after accusing Harris of lying about working at the fast food restaurant.

"I did. Yes, I did work at McDonald’s," laughed Harris. "When I was at school … I did fries. And then I did the cashier."
