Trump signs executive order seeking to expand IVF access

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday directing the government to expand access to in vitro fertilization and reduce the costs of the popular fertility treatment.

The order, which directs Trump's domestic policy chief to produce a list of policy recommendations that protect IVF access and cut costs for individuals within 90 days, did not address how the costs would be covered.

Trump signs executive order to ‘aggressively reduce’ IVF costs — after campaign pledge to make it free

President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday meant to start fulfilling a campaign pledge to make in-vitro fertilization (IVF) free for would-be parents.

“PROMISES MADE. PROMISES KEPT: President Trump just signed an Executive Order to Expand Access to IVF!” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt tweeted.

“The Order directs policy recommendations to protect IVF access and aggressively reduce out-of-pocket and health plan costs for such treatments.”

Trump's IVF Executive Order Sparks Republican, Anti-Abortion Backlash

President Donald Trump issued an executive order Tuesday to lower costs for in vitro fertilization (IVF), causing Republican and anti-abortion backlash.

A single cycle of IVF costs between $15,000 and $25,000, which has left many families unable to access the fertility treatment.

While it doesn't change any costs, Trump's order instructs federal agencies to develop policies to reduce out-of-pocket expenses for patients.

IVF Doesn’t Actually Make More Babies

Yesterday, Donald Trump signed an executive order “that aims to expand Americans’ access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) by directing the executive branch to look into ways to reduce financial barriers associated with the expensive fertility treatment.” (As reported by our indefatigable news staff.)

In the fact sheet on the topic, the White House asserts that Trump is delivering on his promise “to advance IVF and help American families with the associated costs so American families can have more babies.”

Trump’s IVF order: Democrats allege ‘PR stunt’ as anti-abortion groups bristle

Democratic lawmakers are decrying President Donald Trump’s recent order on in vitro fertilization as nothing more than a “PR stunt,” while anti-abortion groups bristled over a move that follows Trump’s campaign promise to make the procedure free.

Trump issued an executive order Tuesday directing the assistant to the president for domestic policy to give him a list of policy recommendations on protecting IVF access and “aggressively” lowering out-of-pocket and health plan costs for the procedure.
