House Republicans Propose Defunding Planned Parenthood, Other Abortion Providers in Megabill

The proposal, folded into Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill,’ follows a move by the administration to strip Planned Parenthood of Title X funding last month. House Republicans are proposing a cut to Medicaid reimbursements for organizations like Planned Parenthood as part of their sweeping policy bill to implement President Donald Trump’s agenda. The rule applies to any organization that receives more than a million dollars in annual federal funding, including Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. It blocks funding for such organizations for 10 years.

Abortion, Government Funding for Planned Parenthood at an All-Time High

Planned Parenthood released its latest annual report the day after Mother’s Day. For 2023-2024, abortions are at an all-time high. So is government funding. Nearly three years after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and many states enacted strong pro-life protections, business is still booming. Congress and President Donald Trump can take action—but will they? The organization took in $792.2 million in government grants, contracts and Medicaid reimbursements, up $92.9 million from the previous report.

State Legislators From Across Country Urge End to Federal Funds for Planned Parenthood

More than 180 pro-life state legislators from 49 states have sent a letter to congressional leaders urging them to end Planned Parenthood’s receipt of federal funds. The letter comes as Congress is considering restricting, through the budget reconciliation process, federal dollars from going to the nation’s largest abortion provider. “We’re absolutely making it clear to everybody that this bill is going to redirect funds away from Big Abortion and to federally qualified health centers,” House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said at a recent pro-life gala. The state lawmakers’ letter was...

The Catholic church’s social service arm has long offered resources to women with unplanned or unwelcome pregnancies to give them alternatives to abortion, which the church’s leadership opposes. But Catholic Charities in Chicago is using a lobbying firm that also represents an abortion provider, and the same lobbying firm and its employees have given campaign money to politicians and groups backing abortion rights, the Chicago Sun-Times found.
